The moment something is named, it is given life. A teddy bear is just a piece of cloth and sponge until he becomes Mr Teddy. He then becomes human like and is sometimes even responsible for writing on the wall or dropping the milk on the floor.
Mr Teddy is very similar to the EGO. Who discovered the ego? You certainly do not have an organ called an ego. The ego is used to describe that part of you that sabotages you in experiencing joy and fulfillment in every area of your life. It only exists to the point we accept it’s existance. Just as the monster under the bed existed until you denied it’s existence. Once you no longer gave it power or attention, it disappeared. The same happens with the ego. The more attention you give it, the more controls you.
One way to deal with attention seeking kids is to ignore them. They will soon learn that throwing a tantrum does not always give you what you want. They will learn to ask obediently for something.
There is a lovely animated movie called How to train your Dragon. Spiritual leaders should come together and make a movie called How to train your Ego.
Just as the dragon is wild and creates mayhem so too does the ego create mayhem in your life if not tamed.
The ego is not tamed by fighting it, just as you do not tame a dragon by going to battle with it. The more you fight it, the stronger it gets. In this case to fight is to resist. We all all the resist-persist story…
Let it be. Like music in the background. You hear it, but you can consciously choose not to listen. Just because the music is playing, does not mean you need to dance. You dance only to what makes you happy. Dancing is a spontaneous and fun activity…. So is life!
Do the opposite of what your ego says. If it says you cannot meditate for 5 minutes, then meditate 10. If it says you cannot complete a project, then do 2 projects. If it says you never be loved, then go out and love, unconditionally. Love will be returned. The ego will become tired of giving instructions. Its voice will quiten. It will become a whisper and eventually disappear. Forever? No not forever. It will visit. Like the visit from your mother in law. It’s not wanted home, but treat it with love and make sure it leaves soonest.
Do not live aligned to EGO.
