Good morning,
I’ve seen something on Facebook about a Radio Dj in Durban taking on a “Be happy for 100 days” challenge.
When I saw that I thought to myself, “I don’t believe this person knows what she is signing up for…”
Here’s the thing: You can never be happy for 100 days in a row. That’s like trying to say lets have 100 days of complete day and no night. Just as everything on earth with burn, so too will you internally.
Otherwise, if you force yourself to be happy for 100 days then prepare for the harshest winter you have ever experienced. You will find yourself so depressed, you will breakdown completely.
A common question or statement made to me is, “Your life must be so perfect” or “You must never have a bad day!”
Actually I have really kak days sometimes, and that is the truth.
How do you know what light is if you never been in the dark. How do you know what joy is if you never experienced pain?
To be happy, you have to know sadness.
There is an emotional biorhythm inside you which fluctuates every day from the mean. Any extreme fluctuations on either end of the scale is not good. Your blood pressure varies everyday. Sometimes a little low, sometimes a little high. But this is all done to keep your system in balance. Any extremes and you have Hypertension. So you will be up and down, happy and sad, but this is merely to keep you regulated and give you feedback about your life.
Happiness cannot be experienced everyday, but what is possible everyday is the feeling of being content.
To be happy generally requires a reason. To be content means no matter what, you are okay with what is.
You may be content for 100 days, but never happy for 100 days.
If you are sad today, its okay. Tomorrow is another day and all the feelings you feel will pass and one year from now if I ask you “Do you remember how sad you were on 23 Jan 2014?” Your reply would be, “How on earth would I remember that?!”
So Relax.. Breathe… It’s all okay…
Love,
H
