Expanding on what we really want

I walked over to the cupboard to get the sugar to add to a dish I was preparing.
I opened the cupboard and I searched everywhere for the sugar but there was none in sight. It was not in its usual place. In the end I did not use the sugar.

After supper, I went back to solve the mystery of the missing sugar. It just had to be there! I found it! It was in a different container. If only I took the time to look.

I realised that we do that with every other thing in our life. We want love, but we expect it to look in a certain way, walk in a certain way, talk in a certain way… So when it does come our way, we don’t even see it. It’s not just love that we do this for. We do the same thing for happiness and joy and peace. We have built a certain idea of what conditions must be for us to be happy. Instead of just being happy without reason. We think that peace lies down a certain path and is possible only at a certain time. This is not true. Peace can be yours in this moment.

I did not want to add a container to my dish. I wanted the sugar. This was inside the container. You do not want people, things, money. You want the feeling they can give you. If you spend your whole life looking for containers instead of sugar, you may have to enjoy many bland meals. If you spend your life looking for love, happines or peace in a certain form, you may have to spend your life always looking and never experiencing your heart’s desire.

Open your heart. Open your mind.
Open your eyes. See, do not just look.

I loved you infinitely.

Love,
