I have never been a fan of positive thinking. I find positive thinkers to my dislike. I do not mean that I then like negative thinkers. The problem is when people try to think ONLY positive. When people are too negative, I support them in being more positive until they return to a state of balance. When people are too positive then they live in a fantasy world in denial of basic and simple truths which can create total chaos in their lives. So then I support these people in seeing the reality of the duality. This is to point out that both day and night exists. The sun does not shine 24 hours a day. Problems arise though when we judge the day as good and judge the night as bad.
My work is mostly involved in this area. Breaking free of the lopsided perceptions and judgements where we then get to a space of equanimity and therefore peace. This is when a day is a day and not a good day or a bad day. It just is what it is. This is a powerful space to be in. Simply because nothing outside of you can take away your peace.
This morning I returned from leaving the car at the service centre which is being run by new management. While getting a lift back home I asked the driver if he liked the new owners. His reply was incredible. “I like everyone. If I say the new owners are bad then they become bad.” I had a good laugh. My question was merely to make conversation, but he reflected back to me my own morning thoughts. Where ever you go, there you are! Remember that always.
The car analogy is the best to describe positive only thinkers. Let’s say you are driving are car, and you hear a sound. Positive only thinkers will say, “Don’t worry about it, it will go away.” The negative thinker will say, “Oh this always happens to me, this car won’t last another day.” Both are not healthy responses. The optimum response would be to get the car checked as soon as possible.
Ignoring the problem or even worse being in complete denial of the problem could be disastrous. Can you imagine driving that very car 3 months later and then having the car break down in the middle of an unknown town at night while you are alone with a dead phone? I have insurance and I lock my doors. Does this make me a negatives thinker or person? No. Not at all. I am just being real. I expect the best, but I certainly prepare for the worst. I however do not live in fear thinking I will be robbed. This is what constitutes negative thinking.
I urge you to address problems that you may have. Do no dwell on them, but work through them. See the reality for what it is. Denial is the highest form of ignorance and stubbornness that can destroy your life.
I know there are many negative thinkers out there and for you I have put together a Positive Thinking Kit to help back into balance. This will be available for you by the end of next week.
