I get this alot, “I really don’t know how to thank you or pay you back.”
I am very uncomfortable with that simply because I do not believe in you doing something for me just because or only because you I have done something for you. If you were genuine about giving or serving me in someway, then you would have done it already. Now you simply feel a “moral obligation”. Which you should never feel.
So my reply to the first statement is, “Pay it forward.”
Paying it forward means you do something for someone, that has never done anything for you. It is an act of selfless love. If you then are inspired by this act, then go out and give to someone else, or give to the giver so big, that he/she could not fathom how to repay it; and so they have to again pay it forward.
Only the ego says “scratch my back and I will scratch yours”. The ego does, so it can get. The ego will do and sit waiting for return. It sits expecting and wanting. Then gets dissapointed or hurt when nothing happens. True giving, however, means you have something and then when you GIVE, you no longer have that thing for a while or it is no longer yours. That which is given freely returns to you tenfold, but rarely from the source of which it was given! True giving means no expectations or rewards. True giving is love. Love is the reward. So the reward is the very act of giving!
The ability to love and serve another human being is a gift I am grateful for more than anything in the Universe.
How wonderful it would be if there was a law in place that giving back was a crime and that all you could do was pay it forward. This means on a daily basis, billions of people would be engaging in random acts of kindness simply for no reason. Well the reason is love, isn’t it?
I challenge you to do the following:
1. Do something for somebody (single group, community) in such a way they will never find out who did it.
2. Do something for somebody in a such a way that no third party finds out.
3. Do something for somebody so big that it is impossible to pay back.
4. Do something for somebody you never knew before today.
5. Do something for somebody you love and tell them it is because you love them.
If only you knew how much I love you, you would never find a reason to stop smiling.
Love,
H
