Let’s look at 3 concepts this morning.
Self-Help.
Self-Development.
Self-Mastery.
I’ll give a brief definition of each so you have a basic understanding.
Self-Help:
Support given to yourself. You are given a set of instructions and you follow these based on your interpretation of these instructions. So, here you have a recipe to bake a cake. We all know that 10 people could get the same recipe, but we will get 10 different cakes. The reason for this, is that you are using your experience and understanding to bake the cake. It is not the true way of doing it, but it is your way. The fact that you are making an effort to bake the cake puts you eons ahead (in knowing yourself) of those who wish they had a cake. You are an active participant in your life and I acknowledge you.
Self-Development:
Continuous and persistent effort to be more than you were yesterday. Here, you are developing a technique/s that you will eventually lead to mastery. You are continously evaluating yourself and adjusting and fine tuning. So here, you are tweaking the recipe you were given to adapt to your own taste or to your satisfaction. You may bake the cake an extra 5 minutes or add a teaspoon more sugar. You are now beginning to understand that the recipe is only a guideline or map and the path to follow is unique to each person.
Self-Mastery:
To master self is to eliminate your ego. You move from selfish to selfless. Self-Mastery involves creating the recipe without having any conscious knowledge of seeing a recipe of baking a cake before. The master never claims to have THE best recipe, but only A recipe. The master sleeps, breathes and dances the techniques, but will never claim to know it all. No one can know it all. Knowledge is like the ocean. You can never touch all of the ocean, neither can you see all of it, and no matter how thirsty you are, you can never drink all that water. A master does not care for knowledge. A master is interested in wisdom. This is the ocean within. A master is always a student. A master is also no longer baking the cake for himself , their vision becomes a global/galactic/universal one. They want to share what you know.
Whether you are currently into self – help, development or mastery – does not make you more advanced or less advanced. Where you are is exactly where you need to be. Spirituality isn’t a race or a competition. It isn’t about getting there first, it is about supporting each other
so we get there together.
Love,
H
